Med Equity aims to raise awareness on the effects of a lack of implementation of professional interpretation services in healthcare. We promote health equity by helping to limit the health disparities that result from language barriers.
My name is Ying Chen. I started Med Equity as a high school senior at School Without Walls Senior High School as part of the culmination of my senior project. Throughout the year, I researched the effects of not providing adequate language access services to patients with limited English proficiency, the primary barriers of effective implementation of these services, and the health disparities that result from language barriers.
I started Med Equity to share what I've learned and to raise awareness on this persistent issue affecting limited English proficient patients in healthcare.
